Why are security monitors so expensive?
Can I use my regular computer monitor for my CCTV system?
- The main reason why CCTV monitors are considerably more expensive than similarly sized LCD monitors is that unlike regular LCD monitors, those made for CCTV applications are designed to stay on for longer durations. In some applications, the CCTV monitor is required to stay on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Similar operation requirement on a run-of-the-mill LCD monitor would result in considerable "image burn" and ultimately may render the monitor defective.
- Yes, you may use your regular LCD monitor to view your CCTV system as long as you understand that the life expectancy of one is not the same as the other.
